WARNING: SPOILERS! SPOILERS EVERYWHERE! THIS IS A WARNING! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! #LOL
I’ve been reading A Storm of Swords and A Dance with Dragons again because they’re my favorites in the series so far. Anyway, I realized something while reading a Daenerys chapter in ADwD which is, KHAL DROGO MIGHT COME BACK! #omgyouguys 😀
I searched Google if others have the same theory and it turns out there’s a battalion of us who are thinking the same thing. Okay, here’s the theory:
In Game of Thrones, when Dany grieved over Drogo’s vegetable state and asked Mirri maz Duur to bring him back, the maegi replied, “When the sun rises in the west and sets in the east. When the seas go dry and mountains blow in the wind like leaves. When your womb quickens again, and you bear a living child. Then he will return, and not before.”
“When the sun rises in the west and sets in the east. When the seas go dry and mountains blow in the wind like leaves.” –This is repeated by Dany over and over again in her POVs, almost like Arya’s valar morghulis nightly chant.
When the sun rises in the west and sets in the east…
The sigil of House Martell is a sun with a spear stabbed in the middle, their words are “Unbowed. Unbent. Unbroken.” Come season 4 of Game of Thrones, we’ll be introduced to Oberyn Martell aka The Red Viper. We won’t discuss how badass he is BECAUSE HE TOTALLY IS. Anyway, there’s another Martell that’s going to be introduced to us soon and he’s Quentyn Martell. We won’t divulge too much into the details because it’ll take too long.
Quentyn Martell of Sunspear (get it?) is born in the west and he dies in the east, by way of Dany’s dragon Viserion. He is the “sun who rises in the west and sets in the east”… #mindblown 😀
When the seas go dry…
During a Daenerys chapter on A Dance with Dragons, she sees the Dothraki sea drying up because of the coming autumn in Essos.
In some arguments, the phrase is “when rivers go dry” instead of seas. It almost refers to the Tullys, warden of the Riverlands, whose bloodline is almost running out. The remaining legitimate heir/ruler is Edmund Tully.
And mountains blow in the wind like leaves…
There are two possibilities for the “mountain” metaphor.
The first is Gregor Clegane’s death, aka The Mountain Who Rides. However, it’s unsure if The Mountain really died from his spear wounds given by Oberyn Martell.
The second, and possibly the more valid, refers to the Great Pyramids of Meereen that were destroyed.
When your womb quickens again and you bear a living child…
The last Daenerys chapter is so awesome and full of foreshadowing elements that I’m even tempted to make an article about it #pleasestopme 😀 Anyway, after a few nights of staying in Drogon’s cave, she eats a few berries and becomes very sick the next morning. There’s a lot of blood between her legs but she muses that she hasn’t had her moon blood for ages.
The berries aren’t poison, else it would have killed her. Instead, they’re probably the ingredients for “moon tea”, an abortifacient in the universe of ASoIaF. Dany unknowingly aborted her own child which, in all likeliness, is already a few weeks or months old. It’s possible that Daario Naharis impregnated her since he’s been her consort much longer than Hizdhar zo Loraq.
The point is, her womb has quickened and she bears a living child. I think terminology is important given that “bear” and “birthed” has certain differences. She carried a living child, but she failed to continue carrying it. In other words, her womb was able to “bear” a baby. #mindblown
For those of us who are somehow more familiar with GRRM’s storytelling styles, we know that all prophecies , all foreshadowing elements, and seemingly forgettable events have a larger part in the epic plot that’s unfolding in Martin’s brain.
So yes, we who are loyal to Drogo’s khalasar think that our mighty Khal will be back and BE THE BIGGEST BADASS WESTEROS HAS EVER SEEN! #pleasestopme #proudtobeadork 😀
Let’s see if Martin’s intrigues and plots come full circle, yes?
***P.S. I haven’t googled the facts and quotes I listed here so feel free to comment if there are spelling errors or misinterpretations I missed.
***P.P.S. If you want to support the theory or you can contradict it with your own theory, please lemme hear it and hit the comments.
Until you return, shekh ma shieraki anni… 🙂
