Drogo and Daenerys

Khal Drogo Will Return… Probably!

I’ve been reading A Storm of Swords and A Dance with Dragons again because they’re my favorites in the series so far. Anyway, I realized something while reading a Daenerys chapter in ADwD which is, KHAL DROGO MIGHT COME BACK! #omgyouguys πŸ˜€

khal drogo

I searched Google if others have the same theory and it turns out there’s a battalion of us who are thinking the same thing. Okay, here’s the theory:

In Game of Thrones, when Dany grieved over Drogo’s vegetable state and asked Mirri maz Duur to bring him back, the maegi replied, “When the sun rises in the west and sets in the east. When the seas go dry and mountains blow in the wind like leaves. When your womb quickens again, and you bear a living child. Then he will return, and not before.”

“When the sun rises in the west and sets in the east. When the seas go dry and mountains blow in the wind like leaves.” –This is repeated by Dany over and over again in her POVs, almost like Arya’s valar morghulis nightly chant.

When the sun rises in the west and sets in the east…

The sigil of House Martell is a sun with a spear stabbed in the middle, their words are “Unbowed. Unbent. Unbroken.” Come season 4 of Game of Thrones, we’ll be introduced to Oberyn Martell aka The Red Viper. We won’t discuss how badass he is BECAUSE HE TOTALLY IS. Anyway, there’s another Martell that’s going to be introduced to us soon and he’s Quentyn Martell. We won’t divulge too much into the details because it’ll take too long.

Quentyn Martell of Sunspear (get it?) is born in the west and he dies in the east, by way of Dany’s dragon Viserion. He is the “sun who rises in the west and sets in the east”… #mindblown πŸ˜€

When the seas go dry…

During a Daenerys chapter on A Dance with Dragons, she sees the Dothraki sea drying up because of the coming autumn in Essos.

In some arguments, the phrase is “when rivers go dry” instead of seas. It almost refers to the Tullys, warden of the Riverlands, whose bloodline is almost running out. The remaining legitimate heir/ruler is Edmund Tully.

And mountains blow in the wind like leaves…

There are two possibilities for the “mountain” metaphor.

The first is Gregor Clegane’s death, aka The Mountain Who Rides. However, it’s unsure if The Mountain really died from his spear wounds given by Oberyn Martell.

The second, and possibly the more valid, refers to the Great Pyramids of Meereen that were destroyed.

When your womb quickens again and you bear a living child…

The last Daenerys chapter is so awesome and full of foreshadowing elements that I’m even tempted to make an article about it #pleasestopme πŸ˜€ Anyway, after a few nights of staying in Drogon’s cave, she eats a few berries and becomes very sick the next morning. There’s a lot of blood between her legs but she muses that she hasn’t had her moon blood for ages.

The berries aren’t poison, else it would have killed her. Instead, they’re probably the ingredients for “moon tea”, an abortifacient in the universe of ASoIaF. Dany unknowingly aborted her own child which, in all likeliness, is already a few weeks or months old. It’s possible that Daario Naharis impregnated her since he’s been her consort much longer than Hizdhar zo Loraq.

The point is, her womb has quickened and she bears a living child. I think terminology is important given that “bear” and “birthed” has certain differences. She carried a living child, but she failed to continue carrying it. In other words, her womb was able to “bear” a baby. #mindblown

For those of us who are somehow more familiar with GRRM’s storytelling styles, we know that all prophecies , all foreshadowing elements, and seemingly forgettable events have a larger part in the epic plot that’s unfolding in Martin’s brain.

So yes, we who are loyal to Drogo’s khalasar think that our mighty Khal will be back and BE THE BIGGEST BADASS WESTEROS HAS EVER SEEN! #pleasestopme #proudtobeadork πŸ˜€

Let’s see if Martin’s intrigues and plots come full circle, yes?

***P.S. I haven’t googled Β the facts and quotes I listed here so feel free to comment if there are spelling errors or misinterpretations I missed.

***P.P.S. If you want to support the theory or you can contradict it with your own theory, please lemme hear it and hit the comments.

Until you return, shekh ma shieraki anni… πŸ™‚

  1. The Mountain didn’t really die, or at least it was only implied. And I doubt Drogo will return in the literal sense. It could simply mean that Drogon, maybe a reincarnation of Drogo in dragon form, returns to her to help her conquer Westeros. Just a theory…

    1. I initially thought that too, that it would just be Drogon, not Drogo, who returns to her when the seas go dry blah blah blah…but I’m more keen on the theory that Drogon returned to her because Dany eventually recognized her true purpose as the last “dragon”, that she was supposed to conquer and rule, not cower and surrender to the will of a foreign husband.. OR, that it won’t be Drogo who’ll return to her but his khalasar and her ability to bear children πŸ˜€

  2. i don’t think Drogo will return. we all know Martin, he’s not the type to write happy endings. if Daenerys will eventually return to Westeros, it won’t be with the help of her Khal, but maybe with Aegon(?) and Jon(?) πŸ˜€

    1. OMG I love you already for mentioning Jon πŸ˜€ Anyway, yes, I won’t hold my breath for Drogo’s return. Its highly unlikely that Martin will make it easy for Dany to take over Westeros. There’s a big chance that Drogo will remain in the Nightlands and Dany will find herself other husbands to be at her side. But then again, wishful thinking of Drogo’s return can’t hurt, right? πŸ˜€

  3. I keep my finger crossed for Khal, best character in my opinion πŸ™‚ And I hope that when he’ll be back, Dany dumps Daario or Hizdhar.

    Best regards from Poland πŸ™‚

    1. Me too. Or if our Khal doesn’t return, I’m hoping Dany will marry *SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT!* both Jon and Aegon so the dragon can FINALLY have 3 heads.

      Best regards from Philippines πŸ˜€

  4. I hope you are right ! Loved the character Drogo. Always have felt cheated that he gave such a powerful war speech and then they kill off The greatest warrior who had never lost a battle from a flipping scratch!!! What a waste….. BRING HIM BACK!!!!!!!

    1. I know right. I feel like they wasted all that Haka warrior dance thing by offing him with just a scratch (although it was implied that the maegi poisoned him). I’m really convinced that Drogo will return in some form. *fingers crossed* πŸ˜€

  5. I equally held and is still holding the bliv that drogo will return,he just have to.Its not everyday you create a character who is simply excellent at everything.Drogo is my bestest character in the series.Made me became very curious about the man who played the role, jason mamoa. Lots of love from Nigeria

    1. I know, he’s just too awesome. Even from the start he was already ‘in love’ with Dany, the POVs just described him as a rich barbarian.. pft. He may come back, but there’s a bigger chance that he won’t though. I mean, it’s George R.R. Fucking Martin. It’s the North that’s getting its revenge, the Starks being avenged. He was prolly already reincarnated in the form of Drogon. πŸ˜€
Lots of love from the Philippines πŸ˜€

  6. I read a lot of interesting posts here. Probably you spend a lot of time writing, i know
how to save you a lot of time, there is an online tool that creates readable, SEO friendly articles in minutes,
just search in google – laranitas free content source

  7. Honestly, knowing martins intentional realism’s mixed with the unreal, I see her bleeding as just a part of her womb being barren and spontaneously aborting the child. But yes, I do see her eventually quickening, but once this occurs and if Drogo were to return, she’ll be married to one/two other men. Martin loves his unexpected complications. And honestly with all these “hinges” in different regions of the world referenced by Melisandre and the untold history of westeros, it seems like all sorts of baddies will be spilling forth during the long night, apparently the others aren’t the only ones, maybe because of the opening of these “gateways” will have a part in his return, or pure speculation here, mountains blowing in the wind like leaves and rivers drying up wouldn’t be too implausible if the world changes it’s tilt too far in one of its axis thus explaining the darkness abs possibly explaining the migration of the others to where the colds going.

  8. first of all, I am amazed by that theory, something I can’t say of all theories i’ve read about TWOW, ( Roose being immortal, reek becoming king of the Iron Islands… ) but their are a few things I find hard to believe, 1) Drogo his death has been a major turning point for Dany her life, IF Drogo returns dany will be forced to ( by love and duty ) to be with him again, being a bad choice if you wanna conquer westeros ( she won’t be able to marry to one of the great houses lords or heirs ), Drogo will become like Lady stoneheart, a shadow of himself, this would bring dany down, disturbing her good rythm in life, which would mean Drogo could keep dany from becoming Queen on the IT. and last, I more thinh that it isn’t a prophecy more like a nice way of saying to dany “he ain’t never coming back girl, he dead” because that was Mirra Maz Duur her intention

  9. I have had the same theory since the funeral pyre. I have read many shapeshifters books where the human side or the creature cannot shift until adulthood. Jason Momoa dominated the fans at the the first comic-con in San Diego ( watch the video). He has a HUGE fan base whether the guys who watch the show want to admit it or not. I have always said that Khal , the eggs and Dani were in the funeral pyre together so no matter what the mean prophet lady said., the essence of Khal and Drogon are meshed. If Martin wants to bring Khal back and “bring the sexy back” for the female fan base THAT is the way to do it !! No HBO series has EVER followed books and storylines to the letter, Hell, in the Sookie Stackhouse books Lafayette Reynolds died at the end of the first book and in true blood he was there for MANY seasons, so maybe we need to plead to HBO to get our Khal back !!

  10. I read all kinds of theories here online about Drogo possibly back, actually those theories are possible, but it depends on the writer and HBO, but if you may ask me, I want THE KHAL BACK’S I was disappointed when Drogo’s dead by just only a scratch! What the fuck dude. So boring, !!!! I want him back, just simple as that
